Farm Hand Position 2019

 

NUTRIENT DENSE FARM is a working urban organic/biodynamic farm based in Brackendale and The Squamish Valley that models, promotes, and educates about sustainable food systems, soil health, environmental stewardship, community development, Nutrition and access to high vibrational food for all.

 

Farm Hands participate in all aspects of

  • small scale production farming on the farm. The farm operation includes 2 separate urban plots of annual crops.

  • Farm produce is grown for our CSA members, local restaurants, farm stand, and two weekly farmer’s market..

  • Training is field based and hands on.

  • Must have a minimum of 1-year experience in the field on a farm or as a laborer.

  • Must be in good physical condition, farming is hard on knees and backs!

 

TIME COMMITMENT

 

Full time position

Beginning mid/end of March to mid/late October. Must be able to commit to the whole season.

5 days (40 + hours per week)

$14/ hour  (a higher wage is possible depending on experience and or performance)+ 4% vacation pay, as well as amazing produce (whatever you need for your personal consumption).

Part Time Position

Beginning mid/end of April to mid/late October. Must be able to commit to the whole season.

4 days (32+ hours per week)

$14/ hour  (a higher wage is possible depending on experience and or performance)+ 4% vacation pay, as well as amazing produce (whatever you need for your personal consumption).

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Field Work:

  • Most field work at Nutrient Dense Farm is done by hand and includes bed prep, seeding, planting, weeding, harvesting, hauling, washing. (* labor intensive)

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrated experience with some gardening/farming

  • Positive can-do attitude Self Motivated attitude

  • Farm work requires physical and mental endurance, and farm days are long spent outside in any weather, heat as well as pouring rain!

  • Must be able to lift and carry 35+lbs.

  • And ready to commit to the farm for the season.

  • Most of our bed prepping is done with walk-behind tractors and a tilther and hence experience with these machines/tools is a huge asset.

 

Before applying to our farm if you do not live in Squamish, please look into rent and have secure accommodation. We do not have accommodations available on our farm and Squamish can be difficult to find a place to rent and is ridiculously unaffordable.
